Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif play Tomato Holi

If the popular Spanish festival of Tomatina was part of Indian culture, it might well have been called tomato Holi. While shooting for their film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in Spain, its leading stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif did daub each other with squashed tomatoes.

When in Spain do as Spaniards do. Indeed, Hrithik and Katrina got into the spirit of the festival and, along with co-stars Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, hurled ripened tomatoes at each other and wallowed in the pulpy puree of squashed tomatoes as is evident from the picture above.

The Tomatina sequence is part of the film’s screenplay. It was filmed in a town in Valencia, Spain. Producer Ritesh Sidhwani reportedly ordered 16 tons of tomatoes from neighbouring Portugal for the sequence.

People from the town of Bunyol, where the sequence was shot, participated in the shoot. In fact, the shoot was done at the actual time of the festival to capture its true spirit. But since the shoot went on for two days, the people of Bunyol got to celebrate Tomatina twice.
